The four-engine IL-62 was the first long-haul aircraft in the fleet of Poland’s LOT and entered service in 1972. With the IL-62, new destinations were now within reach: long-haul routes, for example to Toronto or New York, but also to East Asia were added in the course of the 1970s. This IL-62M is named after Ignacy Paderewski: an internationally famous composer and pianist, but also a diplomat and in 1919 the first Prime Minister of the newly independent Polish state. Our 1/500 scale model appears in the livery introduced in 1977, which, with the exception of occasional minor adjustments, is still in use today. Also unchanged to this day is the logo itself, whereas it dates all the way back to the early years of LOT, having first been introduced back in 1929.
