Description
On September 26, 2024, the last two KC-10 Extenders left Travis Air Force Base. Since 1980, the KC-10 had been a crucial asset for U.S. and allied forces, flying airlift and aerial refueling missions across the globe. The KC-10 could carry twice as much fuel as the older KC-135 and at the same time almost as much cargo as the C-17 Globemaster. To commemorate its retirement, Herpa is releasing a small three-model, limited-edition series of the trijet. The first model sports the insignia of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the final U.S Air Force unit to operate the Extender (item no. 538367). The only foreign operator of the KC-10 was the Dutch Air Force, which from 1995 – 30 years ago – put two examples into service as part of the 334th Squadron in air-to-air refueling role for NATO partners but also deploying both on peacekeeping and humanitarian missions worldwide. As part of the limited series commemorating the tri-jet tanker, this model appears in the civilian-looking color scheme that the aircraft wore when delivered to the Dutch armed forces in 1995.
